Experience from both sides of the sports journey.
Sports Path was built by people who have experienced youth and high school sports as coaches, sports professionals and parents.
Jason Maupin
Coach. Recruiting Professional. Sports Executive. Sports Parent. More than 25 years experiencing youth sports from nearly every side.
View Jason's StoryBen Long
Coach, youth mentor, recruiting parent and sports advisor with decades of experience helping young people and families navigate sports.
View Ben's StoryJason Maupin
More than 25 years experiencing youth sports from nearly every side. Jason co-founded Sports Path Consulting to help families navigate the increasingly complex world of youth sports with perspective shaped by coaching, recruiting, sports operations and raising three multi-sport athletes.
From fundamentals to elite competition.
Jason has 20 years of coaching experience across basketball, baseball, soccer, football and flag football. He has worked at recreational, select and elite levels, always emphasizing fundamentals, player development, basketball IQ, teamwork and helping athletes find the environment that fits their goals.
As founder and head coach of Texas Legends Basketball, Jason coached boys and girls teams in high-level tournaments and showcases across Texas and the country. His teams earned strong national results, including a 3rd-place finish at the Prime Time Sports National Tournament and a 5th-place finish at the MAYB National Tournament.
He also coached recreational soccer, baseball, football and flag football, winning numerous league and tournament championships, and coached select baseball. In several cases, he coached the same athletes in multiple sports.
“More competitive isn't automatically better. The right level is the one that fits the athlete's ability, development, goals and enjoyment of the game.”
— Jason Maupin
20 years building athletes and teams.
As founder and head coach of Texas Legends, Jason built a competitive and respected program focused on player development, basketball IQ and preparing athletes for the next level. The program competed in elite showcases and national events throughout Texas and across the country.
- 3rd Place — Prime Time Sports National Tournament
- 5th Place — MAYB National Tournament
- Elite showcases and national events
- 200+ athletes coached across Jason's career
Sports operations, event leadership and national-level recruiting exposure.
Jason co-founded and operated Prime Time Sports, one of the largest youth tournament providers in the country. His responsibilities spanned operations, finance, sales and growth while the company built and operated major youth sporting events.
He also operated the Global Games for Donnie Nelson, then General Manager of the Dallas Mavericks. Beyond event operations, Jason was responsible for marketing and communication with college coaches and NBA scouts.
Recruiting from the college coach's side.
As Sr. National Recruiting Coordinator, Jason worked directly with college athletic departments and coaches on recruiting strategy and messaging. That experience gives him insight into how coaches evaluate athletes, communicate with prospects and position programs—and how families can better understand the recruiting process.

GLOBAL GAMES SELECT · 2007
Talent evaluation and international basketball.
Jason selected players, coordinated participation with athletes, parents and college coaches, selected coaching staffs and helped manage the full event environment. The experience broadened his view of talent evaluation and opportunity beyond the traditional club setting.
Three athletes. Three very different paths.
For all of Jason's professional experience in sports, some of his most valuable perspective comes from being a parent. Jason and his wife have three children—Jackson, Drew and Brooke—whose athletic experiences have been very different.
As a parent, Jason has navigated team selection, multiple sports, changing competitive levels, recruiting, college athletics and the decision not to pursue college sports. That personal experience is a major part of the foundation for Sports Path Consulting.

Ben Long
Ben has worked with youth and families since 1999 and has coached youth sports continuously since 2011. His perspective combines years of hands-on coaching and mentoring with the firsthand experience of raising eight children whose athletic paths have ranged from grassroots participation to academy, Division I and national-team competition.
More than a decade on the sideline. Decades working with youth.
Based in Olathe, Kansas and connected to Manhattan Christian College, Ben has been actively working with youth and families since 1999. He entered formal coaching roles in 2011 and has coached soccer every year since, moving into competitive soccer coaching in 2021.
Across soccer, basketball, flag football and baseball, Ben has coached or mentored well over 300 young athletes. His soccer experience alone spans more than 25 teams, giving him a broad view of how athletes develop, how team environments differ and how parents can evaluate the right competitive fit.
The best opportunity is not always the biggest name or the most expensive program. The right environment is the one that helps the athlete develop, compete, enjoy the experience and move toward the goals that matter to them.
Firsthand perspective from inside the family recruiting journey.
Ben has personally navigated high-level college recruiting with his children and has communicated with roughly 50 college coaches through those processes. That experience gives him a practical understanding of what families face when recruiting becomes real.
